On November 4, the Opening Ceremony of “Clasp the Moon in the Ninth Heaven—Chinese Lunar Exploration Program Exhibition” was officially held at Sichuan Science and Technology Museum. This Exhibition was cosponsored by the State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defence and Sichuan Provincial People’s Government and supported by Chinese Academy of Sciences. This is the first time to hold such theme exhibition in Mainland China in the past ten years since the Lunar Exploration Program was implemented. Such exhibitions were organized earlier in Hong Kong in July and Macao in September, which attracted more than 300,000 people there to visit. This Exhibition will remain open to the public of Sichuan until November 13, and then there will be an itinerant exhibition around China.

This Exhibition consists of Lunar Exploration Program, Moon Culture, Science Interaction and other key exhibition areas, and will show the development history and main achievements of Lunar Exploration Program. In this Exhibition, there will be 1:1 high-simulation models of Chang’e-3 lander and “Yutu” lunar rover will be unveiled to the public, and the precious image data on Long March rocket, artificial satellite, simulative launching site and real lunar surface pictures captured by Chang’e-3 will also be on display. Besides, this Exhibition has arranged a special Science Interaction and Experience Exhibition Area so that visitors can operate the simulated lunar rover by themselves.

In addition, this Exhibition has specially set up Sichuan Exhibition Area to comprehensively show the participation of Sichuan military units and civil supporting enterprises in Chinese Lunar Exploration Program. In phase II of Lunar Exploration Program, the Institute of Optics and Electronics of Chinese Academy of Sciences developed the topography camera for probing the topography of lunar surface. On December 14, 2013, the topography camera landed successfully with CE-3 lander, captured the scene of the patroller on lunar surface, successfully acquired China’s first high-resolution panorama of the moon-landing area, and captured the image of the earth from an extraterrestrial body for the first time, which successfully fulfilled its exploration task.

Wang Xueding—Secretary of Party Leadership Group and Executive Vice-president of Chengdu Branch and relevant personnel from Science and Technology Cooperation Office and General Office also attended the Opening Ceremony of the Lunar Exploration Program Exhibition.
