From January 8th to 11th, an expert group formed by CAS members Chen Yong, Zhu Rixiang, Guo Huadong and Cui Peng went to Paxi Area to investigate the secondary mountain hazards in the fault zone of Anning river. They had a forum with the leaders and experts from the Ministry of Land and Resources, the China Railway Eryuan Engineering Group CO.LTD, the Sichuan Earthquake Administration, Science & Technology Department of Sichuan Province, the Sichuan Bureau of Surveying,Mapping and Geoinformation and the Southwest Jiaotong University.
The fault zone of the Anning River is a regional active fault located the west of Panxi Area, which is a famous earthquake belt in China. Its complex topography , geologically conditions and abundant rainfall create a high
risk region of landslides, debris flows and other high mountain hazards. Based on the series of scientific investigation, the project group look forward to carry out the secondary mountain disaster basic theory and enhance disaster prevention capabilities in the 23 fault zone in China.
On a three day expedition, they investigated the Ertan Hydro power Station, the Panzhihua tailings, the Xichang Satellite Launch Center and Jinlongshan landslide monitoring project.
