IMHE Accomplishes Initial Investigation to the Western Slopes of Gongga Mountain

09 09, 2013

Led by Researcher Wang Genxu, Zhu Wanze, IMHE accomplished scientific investigation to the western slope of Gongga Mountain recently.

This investigation focused on three aspects, distribution of altitudinal vegetation belts, glacier change and spectral characteristics of soil. Basing on  this investigation, researchers determined sample sites to carry out long-term atmosphere and ecological observation in alpine meadow, shrubland and coniferous forest zone of Gongga Mountain. Moreover, researchers collected soil and plant samples in different spectral bands, and they will analyze the character of isotope and geochemical element later, which will provide scientific support to comparative study between the eastern slope and western slope of Gongga Mountain.

By now, IMHE researchers have accomplished the integrated investigation to the eastern slope, the western slope and Yajiageng of Gongga Mountain, and example plot were set already. This work lays solid foundation to built the advanced international level of comprehensive observation platform of mountain altitudinal belt in Gongga Mountain.
